This year the SCDS volleyball team had a very successful season. The JV hornets went undefeated for the whole season led by captains Sophie Myers, and Avery Helmley, and coach Mallory Adams. The varsity team placed fourth in the region, and made it to the sweet 16 led by captains Lilla Brinnan and Harris Stone, and coach Sierra Davis. When asked about the season Davis says, “From lows to highs, our volleyball season was a testament to resilience and growth. Achieving a .500 win percentage for the first time in six years was a triumph, marking a turning point for the program. Farewells to three stellar seniors are bittersweet, but their legacy lives on in our foundation. Amidst transitions, the undefeated JV team sparkled, embodying the bright future ahead. As we close this chapter, we’re not just ending a season; we’re shaping a legacy. The journey continues, and the best is yet to come!” The team went 20-20 this season, making it to the sweet 16 on October 21 playing Crisp County High School. Seniors Lilla, Helen, and CeCe will be missed by the team, and are very grateful for their leadership and commitment to the team.

When meeting our varsity hornets, captains Lilla Brennan and Harris Stone are two names you need to know. Harris Stone, a junior captain this season, lead in serving, serve receive, and digs. She had a total of 264 digs with a 1.66 serve receive rating. As Harris led the team in various stats, as the libero, she also led the team mentally by bringing the team together in order to strive for greater success. Harris says, “I think this season we face a lot of challenges, but we came together in order to overcome those challenges. I am very excited for my senior season, but I am going to miss CeCe, Lilla, and Helem very much.” Lilla Brennan had an amazing senior season leading in assists, and being a varsity captain for the second year in a row. Lilla ended her season with 200 assists.

Overall this volleyball season was a very successful one for the hornets, and we can’t wait to see what they do next year!
