Football: Team 68

The Country Day Football team has been around since 1955 and is in its 68th season. However, this year is like no other, as the roster comprises less than 30 kids, most of which are underclassmen. Country day lost a big Senior Class, including star Quarterback Barry Kleinpeter. To replace him, Barton Mixon has shown his power, throwing 766 yards, 7 touchdowns, and only three interceptions in 6 games, only as a Sophomore. The team so far has gone 3-3 with wins against Pinewood Christain, Windsor Forest, and Beach. However, the team has fallen behind in the region, and every game is a must-win if the Hornets want to make playoffs.
A key contributor to the Hornet’s season is Captain Rooster Bing. The two-way lineman has significantly impacted both sides of the ball, racking up 43 tackles, 11 for loss. He was also recently selected Savannah Morning News player of the week against beach taking 79.2% of the vote. His teammate Josh Washington came in second, earning 16.8% of the vote. Washington has had an impressive season for a freshman as he contributes on both sides of the ball as an offensive mismatch and a lockdown defensive back. Other key contributors are Micheal Grandy, Phil Ajia, John Avino, and Tyler Scott.
