The 2023 SCDS Varsity Cheer team is off to a great start this season as they feature seven stunt groups and more than enough energy to entertain the student section. Obviously, I am not qualified to speak in depth about our cheerleading squad, so I went to another senior, Rachel May, for some help and inside information. The captains for your varsity hornet cheerleaders are Rachel and Annie Lelos. The JV captains are Ella Barrow and Karenna Lapp. Rachel’s favorite cheer is “T-TO-TOUCHDOWN” for the clear reason that it means a hornet touchdown. Rachel’s favorite part about cheer is stunting and dancing. Gamedays are also a favorite because of the energy and spirit the students exhibit throughout the day. Rachel says that what she will miss the most from her senior year of cheering is seeing her friends and fellow seniors leading the student section and bringing all the energy to SCDS football. Another senior, Greer Hollis says she will miss morning carpool and getting to greet the little hornets on Friday mornings. “The face on the lower schoolers shows their excitement to see the cheerleaders and it starts my day off well and sets the mood for game days,” claims Hollis.
