Letter from the editor

Julia McGoldrick, Editor-in-Chief

SCDS community,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you back to Savannah Country Day for the 2022-2023 school year! This year may look a little different with no masks, desk shields, or zoom classes, but I think we are all glad about that, since we can finally get back to going to sports games and schooling events without being required to wear an annoying mask! One other change you might notice on our campus, is the addition of the new Upper School STEM building, Mingledorff Hall. This timely project has given high school students a larger learning environment, with more chances to learn about different topics and use new equipment to enhance their studies, especially in the unique Makerspace. The laser cutter, and 3-D printer, are just some exciting new toys we get to play with in the upper school, of course, when I say play, I mean for educational purposes. Students have quickly found the new gathering stairs fun, comfortable, and easy to socialize with friends or get homework done during free. The new classrooms are so spacious and offer many whiteboards for students and teachers to collaborate on and help solve problems. All of that aside, I think the students have found a liking to the conference rooms available to use during a free. You can study in groups, do individual homework, or use that space however you find it necessary (besides eating). Ms. Anderson’s newly designed library is nothing to look past. The furniture makes it easy to collaborate with peers or work alone, with more room for books, a computer room, and much more to help our students. All of the changing features of our campus makes it even more exciting to see what the rest of the year will hold. Oh, and one more thing! My name is Julia McGoldrick, and I am your new editor-in-chief of the Buzz. You can check out more about our staff on the staff page! I can’t wait to show you what we have in store!

Sincerely,

Julia McGoldrick
