Saturday, January 22nd, marked the last swim meet for the majority of our school’s swim team. As someone who attended the meet, I was granted the pleasure of witnessing Pericles, Cameron, and Yenna swimming fly during the 200 freestyle relay, which coach Abineri watched (with mild disapproval) from her table. I may have also participated in the duct tape incident, which ended up being blamed on Yenna.

In results, the girls’ team placed third, and the boys’ team got second. Overall, the H2Ornets earned third place in their final meet. After impressive state qualifying performance, and quoting directly from Mrs. Abineri, “captain Yenna Park ’23 and freshman sensation Will Harmon ’25” traveled to Atlanta on February 3rd to compete in the state wide competition. Yenna got 8th place in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.84 and 4th in the 100 breast with 1:06.10. Will placed 33rd in the 500 free with a time of 5:13.95. Overall, Yenna (team of one) managed 22nd out of 34 teams in the 1A-3A division!

Briefly recounting end of season rewards, congratulations to Ethan Harrison and Anna Mondy for receiving the coaches award, Grant Hunter, most improved, and likely many more which are not uploaded to the scds.swim.team Instagram. Honorable mention to Pericles Lelos who “wins Most Prolific Swimmer as he competed in different events in each swim meet, hitting all but the 100 fly and 100 breast, which I feel he would have done had not Covid sidelined him for the invitational.”

Join me in celebrating the end of our favorite aquatic athlete’s season, and wishing them luck in the next.
