Right Now, the Upper School theater department is opening our first show of the school year, The Diviners. Our competition show will be opening this month on October 20th-22nd. Written by James Leonard Jr., this story takes place in the early 1930s during the Dust Bowl. It follows a boy, Buddy Layman (Daniel Bosch), and his newfound friendship with a former preacher, C.C. Showers (Silas Johnson). When the boy was young, he lost his mother to a drowning accident, which left him with a grave fear of water. C.C is set on seceding from his preacher ways and instead wants to help Buddy overcome his fear of water. The theater department has been working on this show since late August and is excited to open! When asked how the show was coming along, Mr. Queenan, our wonderful director, said it was going fantastically! This show is, sadly, Mr. Queenan’s last competition show with us before he retires at the end of the school year. Although we are deeply saddened by this, Mr. Queenan could not be going out with a better competition show! I could write a million ways Mr. Queenan has impacted this school for the better in his 15 years of working here, but really, all we can do is thank him for the amazing time and effort he has put into these shows! As well, of course thanking him for putting up with us.

Our regional competition will be on the 22nd. It will be hosted here at SCDS and will be a day full of theater! If we (hopefully) win, we will move on to the state competition in early November. With a long list of astonishing cast members and crew who are working extremely hard. We hope to see you on the show dates! This amazing show entails so much more than the description given, and will not be something you want to miss!
