Theatre Update: Peter and the Starcatcher

Theatre+Update%3A+Peter+and+the+Starcatcher

“Peter and the Starcatcher”, a compelling and hilarious show, about the origin of the well-known story of Peter Pan is the first production of our new director, Mr. Venhaus, in our Upper School Theatre Department. The show follows an orphan boy, whose life is flipped upside down when meeting Molly Aster, who takes the boy with her to protect a trunk full of “starstuff” from evil pirate Black Stache. Being a great show at its roots, the cast elevated the script to another level of emotionality and made the audience feel as if they were in the moment with the actors. The connections between each friend, enemy, and most notably, the chemistry between Molly Aster and Boy were palpable. These students knocked it out of the park by bringing a special sense of vulnerability to the stage, full of many sweet, funny, and spiritual moments.

On Saturday, October 21st, 2023, we attended our annual One-Act Competition, where 6 other regional schools compete by performing their respective 55-minute shows in our Jelks Theatre. After a day full of theatre, with the first school performing at 9 am, and the last at 5 pm, it took the judges an hour and a half to deliberate on awards including all-star cast (for each school), best actor (overall), best actress(overall), best director, and of course first place. Once consulted, the all-star members in our cast were Ben Templeton for his role as Black Stache, and Silas Johnson for his role as Lord Aster. Additionally, our very own Mollie Macfadyen, playing Molly Aster, and Daniel Bosch, playing the Boy, won best actress and best actor over all schools. Our director, Mr.Venhaus, won best director. And Last but not least, our cast won first place! Our state competition takes place on November 18th in Beaufort, wish us luck! We have one more performance for our school on November 16th, after school in Jelks Auditorium
