Boys Basketball Update

Despite a tough loss to BC, the SCDS boys basketball team is looking forward to a deep run in this year’s state playoffs. The team has had impressive wins over Richmond Hill, Aquinas, and has swept cross town rival Savannah Christian. This team has been led by an amazing group of seniors all season long. Whether it’s draining threes with his beautiful jumper, or sealing the game with an absolutely filthy block against Savannah Christian, superstar senior Lane McCullough has been the heart and soul of the team. However, Lane claims that “that wasn’t him” who airballed an open three in Saturday’s loss to BC. The team’s play has also been boosted by sophomores Rob Spaulding and Timo Moeller. Rob has been a beast on offense all season as he’s been able to create his own shots and drive into the lane. Superstar center Timo Moeller has been flipping double-doubles nightly like he’s working the grill at McDonald’s. Timo has surpassed twenty points six times this season, and has been the safety blanket for the hornets offense. I recently had the chance to sit down with Timo once again and ask a few questions.

So Timo, what has been your favorite game of the season so far?

“Probably the second Christian game because it was very fun and everyone seemed to be in their bag.”

How far do you think this team can go in the state playoffs?

“There’s only one way to find out but I have lots of confidence when it comes to us showing up in the playoffs. Far.”

Who has surprised you the most with their play this year?

“Definitely William “Matty B” Whitfield. He was forced into taking a lot more minutes and he’s been shooting well lately.”

Finally, talk about the seniors, how will this group of young men be missed?

“I’m going to miss all of them. It was always nice to have those guys win or lose with. I’m definitely going to miss them.

The boys have a solid record of 12-10 and will look to finish the regular season with games Hilton Head Prep and Calvary, and then will set their eyes on the state championship, as they get ready for the always exciting state tournament. GO HORNETS!
