Theater+Update

Ian Rogers, Contributer

As we reach the end of the school year, we are also coming up on our last play in the Upper School Theater Department. Our Town, a show with three acts, the first being about falling in love, the second being about marriage, and the third about death is opening April 27th, at 7 pm, with additional performances, on the 28th and 29th at 7 pm as well as a matinee show on the 29th at 2 pm. When asked about the show, the leading woman, Mollie Macfadyen, playing Emily, says she’s most excited about the cozy audience which is different from the usual way for viewers to see the show. In this show, Mr. Queenan’s vision was to have the show be similar to a black box theater. The audience will be on stage with 50 seats each night. Mollie mentions that she thinks the audience will be most excited to see the character development throughout all 3 acts, as well as the heartbreaking ending. With this being Mr. Queenans last show, make sure to secure your tickets at the link, https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4BADA623A6FA7-performance. It will be a show that you will not want to miss.

With this being Mr. Queenan’s last show at SCDS, it is only right to mention the importance of his presence at SCDS throughout the years. Mr. Queenan started out at SCDS in 2008 and began the school’s first drama courses as well as after-school programs for Middle and Upper School. Starting in 2014, he was the school’s first Director of Fine and Performing Arts. Mr. Queenan has been a crucial part of the school’s growth since 2008 and any person who has worked with him could tell you that he is the most kind-hearted genuine soul, and it is a pleasure to be a part of any project he has also been involved in. This is only the beginning of what he has done for people and he will continue to change people’s lives outside of this school. Thank you, Mr. Queenan, and this should be only more proof that you should see Our Town, opening on the 27th!
