Artist of the Issue: Amanda Chen

Jessica Elkin

Artist of the Issue is Amanda Chen

Amanda takes Art 400, and a project of hers is up on display in Johnson, pictured on the right. It resembles a mobile with a bunch of origami paper cranes, which look like they’ve been made from spare newspaper. They’re hanging from a ring of cardboard and they swirl around a curled piece of paper. Written on it is:

“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is broken, winged bird that cannot fly.”

When asked for comment, Ms. Mulzer, who teaches Amanda’s Art 400 class, complimented the creativity in her work and had this to say:

“Amanda is always thinking out of the box.” 11/19/21

Amanda’s work shows a level of creativity and skill, as well as an astute eye for detail and for fitting in a symbolic message in a subtle way. Can’t wait to see what she makes next!
